Gerundio
Es la
conjunción del verbo que demuestra una acción, pero no esta definido ni por el
tiempo,ni el modo, ni el numero ni la persona
Junto
con el participio y el infinitivo, es una de las formas
no personales del verbo o verboides. En general, puede adoptar dos
formas: la simple —por ejemplo, comiendo— y la compuesta,
construida mediante el uso del verbo auxiliar haber —habiendo
comido—. Existen dos modalidades para la construcción, en
función de la conjugación a la que pertenece el verbo. Los verbos de la primera
conjugación (acabados en -ar) se forman con la terminación
o desinencia -ando, mientras que los de la segunda y tercera
conjugación (-er, -ir) lo hacen con -iendo.
- Funciona como adverbio (complemento circunstancial) o como verbo.
- Expresa acción simultánea o anterior a la del verbo principal.
- Su sujeto debe ser el mismo que el del verbo principal o tener uno propio.
Los gerundios con
modificación ortográfica no deben considerarse una irregularidad.
Únicamente seguimos la regla ortográfica del español según la cual, en el caso
del triptongo formado por: vocal + i átona (semi consonante) + vocal, la "i"
se cambia por "y".

El mismo también puede
aparecer en el principio de la palabra.

Eso es importante: todos los tiempos continuos tienen una forma de to be y un gerundio.
Hay varios tiempos continuos, pero aquí tienes los más usados:
- Presente continuo: am/is/are + gerundio
- Pasado continuo: was/were + gerundio
- Futuro continuo: will be + gerundio
- Presente perfecto continuo: have/has + been + gerundio
Según la forma del verbo to be, sabemos si es presente, pasado, futuro, etc.
